This is the narrowest part of your dog’s head, and measuring here helps reduce the risk of your Whippet slipping out of their collar.
Example:
If your dog's measurement is 12", choose the 11" to 13" size. This means the collar adjusts between 11 and 13 inches — it does not mean the total length of the collar is 13".
If measuring from an existing collar, measure from the end of the leather to the hole you use — not the total length of the collar. The total length will result in a collar that's too big.

The Wishbone leather Whippet collar is ideal if you want something a little cheekier than just a plain old leather collar for your sighthound. Perhaps they have a bit of an obsession with food or love a good chew. With 28 shades of Italian calf leather to choose from for both the collar and the bone inlay, you can create a collar that perfectly complements your dog’s colouring, or matches an existing colour scheme.
Our Whippet collars are 1.75″ wide, offering the support needed for this sighthound breed, and taper to a 3/4″ wide buckle strap. The fishtail design helps prevent your dog backing out of the collar. Made from Italian calf leather, the collar will soften up more and more as it is used. As with all good quality leathers, it may feel a little firm initially, but after a few wears will feel like butter.

Wrap a soft tape measure around the narrowest part of the neck (usually from under the chin and around behind the ears) so that it's loosely touching the fur.
Don't add any fingers underneath the tape measure.

Yes. If the collar doesn't fit when it arrives, you can exchange it for a different size. The most common reason for a poor fit is measuring the total length of an existing collar rather than the dog's neck directly. Full details are on our returns and exchanges page at petiquettecollars.co.uk/returns.
Whippets are a sighthound breed, which means they have a narrow, tapered head that is slimmer than their neck. This is the opposite of most breeds, and it means a standard flat collar sized to fit the neck will simply slide straight off over the head. A sighthound collar solves this with a wider central section, often called a fishtail shape, which is broader than the neck when the collar is worn. This makes it more difficult for the collar to slip over the head, while the tapered ends sit neatly behind the ears for a comfortable, secure fit.
A wipe with a damp cloth after muddy walks is usually enough to keep our leather collars looking good. For more stubborn stains, perhaps your dog has been rolling in fox poo, add a small amount of washing up liquid to the damp cloth and gently wipe the affected area. If your dog has been swimming, particularly in the sea, give the collar a wipe with a damp cloth afterwards to remove any residue or salt from the leather.
Your leather collar can be made in 28 Italian leather colours: Acorn, Baby Blue, Baby Pink, Black, Bottle Green, Candyfloss, Chianti, Daffodil, Dove, Dusky Pink, Easter Rose, Jaffa, Lime, Madeira Blue, Mushroom, Olive, Peanut Butter, Purple Velvet, Royal Purple, Ruby, School Grey, Shamrock, Signal Blue, Spearmint, Teal, Thistle, White, and Willow.
