To order the correct leather collar for your Whippet, you’ll need to measure their neck accurately. This simple guide will show you exactly how to measure your dog’s neck and how to measure an existing collar—without any fuss or confusion.

Measuring Your Whippet’s Neck
For Whippets, the best collar measurement is taken at the top of the neck, just behind the ears and under the chin. This is the narrowest part of their head, and measuring here helps prevent your dog from backing out of their collar.
Here’s how to measure accurately:
- Take a soft tape measure and wrap it around your Whippet’s neck behind the ears and under the chin.
- Ensure it’s snug but not tight—just enough for a comfortable fit.
- Write down this measurement clearly in inches or centimetres.
Tip: Choose a collar size where your dog’s neck measurement is closest to the smallest hole in the size range. This gives you room to loosen slightly if needed.
Measuring an Existing Collar
If you already have a collar that fits well, use this method to get the correct size:
- Lay the collar flat on a table.
- Measure carefully from the end of the leather at the buckle (where the buckle’s prong sticks out) to the hole you normally use.
Important: DO NOT measure the total length of the collar. Measuring the full length of the collar will give you the wrong size and a poor fit.
If your collar measurement is 12 inches, for example, choose the collar size range where 12 inches falls roughly in the middle (such as 11–13 inches).
Custom Sizes Are Available
