A well-made lead is one of the most essential accessories for any dog owner, and our handmade leather dog lead is built to offer both comfort and control. Designed to be strong enough for pullers yet light in the hand, it’s ideal for daily walks, training sessions, and adventures of all kinds.
Each lead is handmade in our Northumberland workshop from premium Italian calf leather, chosen for its supple feel and exceptional strength. The leather softens further with use, moulding gently to your hand over time. You can select from a rainbow of 28 colours, from rich traditional tones to bright contemporary shades, and we’ll make your lead to order.
The standard length is approximately 1.2 metres, with four width options to suit any breed. Narrow widths have a smaller clasp for toy breeds, while wider leads offer extra durability for large or giant breeds. A built-in D-ring on the handle lets you clip the lead around your shoulder or waist when your dog is off lead, keeping your hands free. Pair it with a matching leather collar for a complete set.
Save £10 when bought at the same time as one of our walking collars. See full offer details.
What is the best length for a leather dog lead?
A 1.2 metre lead is the most versatile choice for everyday walks, giving your dog room to move while keeping them close enough for safety. We can also make shorter or longer lengths to suit training needs, recall practice, or your walking style.
Is leather a good choice for a dog lead?
Yes. High-quality leather is strong, flexible, and comfortable to hold, making it ideal for leads. Unlike synthetic materials, it softens over time without losing strength, and it’s less likely to cause friction burns if your dog pulls suddenly.
How do I choose the right width for my dog’s lead?
Choose a width that balances comfort in your hand with the right clasp size for your dog. Narrower leads suit small breeds and have smaller clasps, while wider leads provide extra strength for medium to giant breeds.
Can I order this lead in a custom size or colour?
Absolutely. We make each lead to order in your chosen colour and can adjust the length if required. Simply let us know your preferred size when ordering and we’ll confirm availability.
All orders are handmade and are usually dispatched within 7-10 business days, Monday to Friday.
