Leather Slip Lead

This rolled leather slip lead is a favourite in the show ring, but it’s just as useful for everyday walks when used correctly. Designed to slip over your dog’s head without a collar or clip, it offers gentle control with a leather stop to hold the loop in place once fitted.

Each lead is handmade in our Northumberland workshop using a paracord core wrapped in soft Italian calf leather. The lead is rounded for comfort, with a flat stitched edge to maintain structure. Choose from six lengths, from 1 metre to 1.5 metres, depending on your dog’s size and your handling preference.

You can customise your slip lead in any of our 28 leather colours. Whether you’re showing your dog or just need something easy to slip on and off, this lead offers comfort, strength, and just the right amount of flexibility.

Sizing Guide

To find the right length for your slip lead, use a piece of soft string or rope as a guide.

1. Tie a small loose loop at one end — about 1cm across — then thread the other end through to create a noose.
2. Drape it over your dog’s head and shoulders as you would use the lead — some handlers prefer a looser fit, others more snug.
3. Stand in your usual showing or walking position and pinch the string where you’d want the handle to sit in your hand.
4. No need to allow for a handle — we’ll include that in the final length. You may want a little extra if you wrap the lead around your hand.
5. Cut or mark the string at your chosen length, then untie and measure it end to end.

What’s the difference between a slip lead and a regular lead?
A slip lead slips over your dog’s head without a clip or collar, tightening gently if they pull. It combines lead and collar in one piece.

Is this lead suitable for everyday walks?
Yes — as long as it’s used correctly. The leather stop keeps the loop from loosening too far, but it’s important the lead is fitted properly and your dog is trained to walk on it.

Can I use this lead on a puppy?
No, this style isn’t recommended for puppies. It’s designed for dogs with reliable lead manners, and the single width is better suited to adult dogs.
