Our padded leather lurcher collar is handmade for sighthounds with slender, sensitive necks, offering a wide, comfortable fit with added padding for everyday use. Each collar is handmade in our Northumberland workshop using supple Italian leather and finished with a soft padded lining that sits gently against the skin.
The classic fishtail shape is 2″ at its widest point, tapering down to a 1″ strap which offers the right balance of support and flexibility. It’s especially well-suited to Lurchers, Greyhounds, Salukis and similar breeds with narrow heads that need a broader collar when walking. The tapered ends ensure it sits naturally without bulk or stiffness.
You can customise your collar with over two dozen leather colours. Choose one for the outer and another for the lining, with a coordinating leather keeper to bring it all together. It’s stylish, strong, and made to order to your dog’s exact size—so it fits as good as it looks.

Why do Lurchers wear wider collars?
Lurchers and similar sighthound breeds have narrow heads and long, slender necks. A wider collar distributes pressure more evenly across the neck, making it more comfortable and reducing the risk of injury when out walking. It also prevents the collar from slipping off over the head, which can happen with thinner styles.
What is the best type of collar for a Lurcher?
A wide leather collar with a fishtail shape is generally considered best for Lurchers. It offers the comfort and structure their necks need, and if it includes a padded lining—like this one—it’s even better for dogs with delicate skin or short coats. Martingale styles are also popular for Lurchers prone to slipping their collars.
How should a Lurcher collar fit?
A Lurcher collar should sit snugly around the narrowest part of your dog’s neck, just behind the ears and under the jaw. It should be close-fitting but not tight—enough to prevent slipping off, without causing discomfort. You can find a size guide just below the product description to help measure correctly.
How does this collar compare to a martingale for Lurchers?
This padded leather collar is ideal for everyday walks and fastens with a classic buckle, making it a simple, stylish option for dogs who walk well on the lead. A martingale collar works a little differently—it gently tightens when your Lurcher pulls or tries to back out, which can help prevent them slipping free. If your dog is still learning lead manners or tends to wriggle out of traditional collars, a greyhound martingale collar may be more suitable.

Use a soft tape measure and follow these steps:
This is the narrowest part of your dog’s head, and measuring here helps reduce the risk of your Greyhound or Lurcher slipping out of their collar.
Tip: Choose a size where your dog’s neck measurement is closest to the smallest hole in the size range. This gives you a bit of room for adjustment.
