A leather half check collar with a buckle fastening, designed for your dog’s comfort and safety. This collar is made by hand from the softest Italian leather in a choice of contrasting colours.
The term half check and martingale collar are often used to describe the same type of collar. Typically though, while the design and purpose of the collars are essentially the same, half check collars will usually be made with a check chain in place of a leather or fabric loop.
We offer our adjustable leather half check collar in four widths to suit most breeds and use a high quality stainless steel check chain, but please do remember, the narrower the collar, the smaller the chain. A 1/2″ chain will no doubt be no match for a 60kg Bullmastiff, or strong pullers.
When measuring for your half check collar, the most important thing to remember is that it has to be large enough to slide over the head, which is why it’s vitally important to get an accurate measurement for the widest part of the head, which is usually around the ears. This particular style of collar also has buckle adjustment though, so you’ll be able to adjust to the perfect fit.
Half check collars are perfect for dogs who are adept at backing out of collars. The chain loop allows the collar to slacken off a little while walking, but if the dog starts to pull or back out, the collar tightens up, so you can relax in the knowledge that they won’t be able to pull a Harry Houdini.
How to measure your dog's neck for a martingale collar
- Wrap a soft tape measure around the widest part of your dog’s head so that it’s fairly snug (often around the ears) and take that measurement.
- Take a fairly snug measurement around the middle of their neck too.
- Enter both measurements in the boxes in the options menu
