Upgrade your sighthound’s collar with a handmade leather design by Petiquette. Tapered, supportive collars made to suit the long necks and narrow heads of breeds like Whippets, Greyhounds, Lurchers and Italian Greyhounds.
Sighthounds aren’t built like other dogs. Their necks are longer, and their heads are often narrower than the neck itself. That means a regular flat collar can easily slip off or cause discomfort. Our sighthound collars are shaped to solve that — wider at the front to spread pressure, then tapering behind the ears for a comfortable, secure fit.
Each one is handmade in our Northumberland workshop using soft Italian leather, rot-proof thread and stainless steel hardware. You can keep things simple with a plain leather collar, add padding for extra comfort, or choose a Swarovski crystal design for something more eye-catching. All collars are made to order in sizes and widths tailored to each sighthound breed.
Sighthounds are a group of dogs originally bred to hunt by sight, not scent. They’re fast, lean, and elegant — with deep chests, long legs, and distinctively shaped necks and heads. Common breeds include Italian Greyhounds, Whippets, Greyhounds, Lurchers, Salukis, Borzois, Afghans and Galgos.
Their build means they need collars that offer proper support, especially around the throat. A wider, tapered shape gives a better fit and prevents slipping, which is especially important for dogs with small heads relative to their neck size.
We’ve grouped our collars by breed and collar type to help you choose the best fit:
Italian Greyhound Collars – 1.5 inches at the front, tapering to a ½ inch buckle. Lightweight and shaped to stay in place on slim necks.
Whippet Collars – 1.75 inches at the widest point, tapering to a ¾ inch buckle. A secure fit for mid-sized sighthounds.
Greyhound and Lurcher Collars – 2 inches at the front, tapering to a 1 inch buckle. Made for broader, more muscular necks.
Martingale Collars – Useful for sighthounds who might back out of a collar. Offers gentle control without pressure or discomfort.

At Petiquette, we’ve been making leather dog collars for sighthounds since 2009. It started with a single Westie, but over the years, we’ve refined our designs specifically for breeds like Whippets, Greyhounds, Italian Greyhounds and Lurchers — all with long, slim necks and smaller heads that don’t suit standard pet shop collars.
Every collar in this collection has been shaped and tested to suit real dogs — from young Iggies to retired racing Greyhounds — with feedback from thousands of customers along the way. We don’t just follow a size chart. We listen to what works.

Each collar is made to order in our Northumberland workshop using Italian calf leather, stainless steel hardware and rot-proof thread. The leather is soft from the start and becomes more supple with time. If looked after, many customers find their collar still going strong after a decade.
You won’t find plastic buckles, mass production, or generic sizing here. Instead, we make your collar by hand, one at a time, based on the size, colour and style you choose.
Not sure which type of collar your sighthound needs? Here’s a quick guide:
A classic walking collar works for most adult sighthounds and comes in widths shaped for their breed.
A martingale collar adds gentle control for dogs who tend to slip or pull — ideal for rescues or those new to the lead.
A house collar is lightweight and designed for wearing indoors, especially if your dog wears ID at all times.
A puppy collar is slightly narrower and softer for comfort while your sighthound is still growing.
Still unsure? We’re always happy to advise — just send us your dog’s breed and neck measurement and we’ll help you find the best fit.

Q: Why do sighthounds need a different type of collar?
Sighthounds have long necks and narrow heads, which makes them prone to slipping out of standard flat collars. A tapered sighthound collar fits more securely and spreads pressure across a wider area of the neck, reducing the risk of injury or escape.
Q: What’s the difference between a Whippet collar and a Greyhound collar?
Mainly the width. Whippet collars are 1.75 inches at the front, while Greyhound and Lurcher collars are 2 inches wide. Both taper to suit the dog’s neck and head size — Greyhounds and Lurchers tend to have stronger necks and need a broader collar for support.
Q: Are martingale collars safe for everyday use?
Yes. Our leather martingale collars are designed to tighten gently if your dog pulls or tries to back out of the collar. They don’t choke or dig in, and many sighthound owners use them daily with no issues.
Q: What’s the best collar for a sighthound puppy?
We offer puppy versions of our sighthound collars, slightly narrower with softer padding to protect delicate skin. They’re shaped the same way, just sized down to suit growing necks.
Q: How do I measure my dog for a sighthound collar?
Measure around the narrowest part of your dog’s neck, just behind the ears. This helps ensure the collar fits snugly and won’t slip off — especially important for sighthounds with heads narrower than their necks. If you're unsure, just send us the measurement and we’ll advise on size.
Q: Do you make collars for Salukis, Borzois or Galgos?
Yes. Our Greyhound & Lurcher collars often suit other large sighthounds like Salukis, Borzois and Galgos. If your dog falls between sizes or has a particularly fine build, we can adjust the taper or strap length to suit.
Q: Can I get help choosing the right collar?
Absolutely. Just send us your dog’s breed, neck measurement and any preferences, and we’ll guide you through the options. Every collar is made to order, so small adjustments are easy to make.
