A house collar which doubles up as a safety collar
Our greyhound leather house collar is the perfect solution for greyhounds and lurchers for when they lounge around the house. More often than not, you will probably use either a fishtail or martingale style collar for your sighthound, but as essential as these collars are, they aren’t really suited for relaxing in the home due to their width.
That’s why we’ve made our new leather house collars, ideal for greyhounds, saluki, deerhound, and of course whippets. The collars are 3/4″ wide (approximately 2cm) and expand to fit over the head, then adjust back down using the metal slider so there’s no need for a clasp. In the centre of the collar is a stainless steel o ring, which serves two purposes.
The first is so that you can attach your dog’s ID tag to the greyhound house collar, so you know they’re always safely tagged when at home.
The second, and perhaps more important reason, is that it acts as a pivot point for the rest of the collar. As long as the collar hasn’t been tightened too much, then should the collar become caught on something, then the leather on each side of the o ring can pivot at 90 degrees making it easier for your hound to back out of the collar.
We still wouldn’t advise that house collars be left on your dogs when unattended, but it’s an added peace of mind if something were to happen when your back is turned.
