Description

This brown vegetable-tanned leather collar has a warm, classic look that will suit almost any dog. The outer is traditional vegetable-tanned leather, valued for its depth of colour and long-lasting character. Inside, you can pick any of our 28 Italian leather colours for the lining, giving you the choice of a bright contrast or a tone that blends in.

You can also choose to add a hidden layer of padding beneath the lining for extra comfort, and the rounded edges of the Italian leather lining help protect your dog’s coat from rubbing. The buckle and D-ring are solid stainless steel—strong, reliable, and made to handle everyday wear.

We have only a limited amount of this leather available, so if you’d like a collar with a traditional feel and a custom twist, don’t wait too long.

FAQs

How do I choose the right size collar for my dog?
Start by measuring your dog’s neck where the collar normally sits, ensuring the tape is snug but not tight. You’ll find a full guide on sizing on the product page, or head to our Dog Collar Size Guide for more tips. If you’re unsure between sizes, we’re happy to advise.

Can I add padding to this collar?
Absolutely. You can add a hidden padded layer inside the lining for extra comfort, which is especially useful if your dog wears their collar all day or has a sensitive neck.

Are leather collars stiff when they’re new?
Good quality vegetable-tanned leather can feel firm at first, but it softens beautifully as the natural oils from your dog’s coat work into it. The Italian calf leather lining is butter-soft right from the start, so it feels gentle against the neck straight away.

Can my dog go swimming in the collar?
Yes, occasional swimming is fine. The stainless steel hardware won’t rust or tarnish, and vegetable-tanned leather can handle getting wet. Just rinse off any salt or mud afterwards and let the collar dry naturally—avoid putting it near direct heat so it keeps its shape and finish.

How to measure your dog's neck for a leather dog collar

  • Use a soft tape measure (or a piece of string) and wrap it around the middle of your dog’s neck.

  • Make sure it’s fairly snug against the fur but not tight. No need to add fingers underneath – we’ve already allowed for a comfy fit in the sizing.

  • This is your dog’s neck measurement.

Now check our size chart and choose a collar where your dog’s neck measurement is closest to the smallest hole in the size range.

Example:
If your dog’s neck measures 10", you’ll need a collar listed as 9"–11", as this adjusts between 9 and 11 inches.

PLEASE DON’T MEASURE THE FULL LENGTH OF AN EXISTING COLLAR – this is not your dog’s neck measurement and will result in a collar that’s too big.

If you feel your dog has a neck measurement that is in between sizes and you're unsure which would be the best fit, please get in touch and we'll be able to advise.

How to measure an existing collar

If you have an existing collar that's a perfect fit, then follow the guide below:

How to measure an existing dog collar - Petiquette Collars

Take a look at our size chart below and choose a size where the measurement you have taken from your existing collar falls as close to the middle of the range.

For example, if the length of your existing collar from the end of the leather to the hole you use is 13", then you'd choose a size 12" - 14". This will give you room to tighten or slacken the collar.

If you're at all unsure, please do get in touch.  We'd rather you receive the perfect fit for your dog first time.
