Bad to the Bone is a classic leather collar with leather bones cut from Italian calf leather and stitched along the collar. The bones and collar are the same quality leather, just in different colours.

Like all good leather it will soften with wear as the natural oils from your dog’s coat work in. Most customers notice the difference within a few weeks.

Neck measurement — around the middle of the neck

Wrap a soft tape measure around the middle of the neck, so that it's loosely touching the fur. Don't add any fingers underneath the tape measure. If you don't have a tape measure, a piece of string and a ruler works just as well.

Please enter a valid measurement.

Recommended Size

Your measurement sits at the join between two of our standard sizes. Both the will fit. If you'd like to get in touch we can make a tailor-made size that's the perfect fit for your dog.

Perfect for breeds such as: Border Terrier, Dogue de Bordeaux, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Basset Hound

Customise your collar

Each and every collar we sell is handmade to order by us, for you.

To create a collar as individual as your dog, simply pick your leather colour, and we'll do the rest.

A note on shades. Each hide is naturally a little individual, which is part of what makes your collar unique. These are photographed in natural daylight and are as faithful as we can get them. Screen brightness can shift things slightly, so if you want to double-check a shade before ordering, just get in touch.

How to measure your dog's neck

  • Wrap a soft tape measure around the middle of your dog's neck, held fairly snug against the fur.
  • Note the measurement in inches — this is your dog's neck measurement.
  • Choose the size where that measurement falls within the range, ideally towards the smaller end to allow for adjustment.

Example:
If your dog's neck measures 10", choose the 9" to 11" size. This means the collar adjusts between 9 and 11 inches — it does not mean the total length of the collar is 11".

If measuring from an existing collar, measure from the end of the leather to the hole you use — not the total length of the collar. The total length will result in a collar that's too big.

If you're unsure which size is right for your dog, please get in touch — we're happy to help.

FAQs

How long will my order take?

All collars and leads are made to order. We typically dispatch within 3–7 working days, with Royal Mail Tracked 48 adding 2–3 further working days in the UK. Most orders arrive within 5–10 working days. A dispatch notification is sent by email. If you need a collar by a specific date, contact us before ordering.

Can I exchange my collar if it doesn't fit?

Yes. If the collar doesn't fit when it arrives, you can exchange it for a different size. The most common reason for a poor fit is measuring the total length of an existing collar rather than the dog's neck directly. Full details are on our returns and exchanges page at petiquettecollars.co.uk/returns.

Can my collar be made in a different width?

Our collars come in five widths: 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 1", and 1.25", which are matched to the collar size so your dog will have the most comfortable collar possible for their size and breed. However, as every collar is cut and made entirely by hand, if you'd prefer something wider or narrower just get in touch and we'll do our best to accommodate it.

How do I clean a leather dog collar?

A wipe with a damp cloth after muddy walks is usually enough to keep our leather collars looking good. For more stubborn stains, perhaps your dog has been rolling in fox poo, add a small amount of washing up liquid to the damp cloth and gently wipe the affected area. If your dog has been swimming, particularly in the sea, give the collar a wipe with a damp cloth afterwards to remove any residue or salt from the leather.

What leather colours can my collar be made in?

Your leather collar can be made in 28 Italian leather colours: Acorn, Baby Blue, Baby Pink, Black, Bottle Green, Candyfloss, Chianti, Daffodil, Dove, Dusky Pink, Easter Rose, Jaffa, Lime, Madeira Blue, Mushroom, Olive, Peanut Butter, Purple Velvet, Royal Purple, Ruby, School Grey, Shamrock, Signal Blue, Spearmint, Teal, Thistle, White, and Willow.
