House & ID Tag Collars

Lightweight House Collars for Holding Dog ID Tags

House collars, sometimes called ID tag collars, are lightweight collars that hold your dog’s ID tag without adding bulk. Many owners keep them on around the home, and they’re also useful outdoors if your dog wears a harness instead of a walking collar. At Petiquette, we handmake our house collars in leather, rope, and waterproof PVC, with dozens of colours to choose from.

What Is a House Collar, and Why Use One?

A house collar (also known as an ID tag collar) is a lightweight collar your dog wears around the house to hold their ID tag — nothing more. They’re not designed for attaching a lead or for wearing unsupervised, but they’re ideal for dogs who need to wear ID at home, in the garden, or when they’re off lead in secure areas.

Designed to Hold ID Tags, Not Leads

Our house collars are made for comfort and simplicity. They’re lightweight, easy to wear, and come with a secure O-ring for attaching your dog’s ID tag. Whether your dog’s lounging on the sofa or out in the garden, their collar stays put without getting in the way.

Handmade in the UK, One at a Time

Like all our collars, every house collar is handmade in our Northumberland workshop. From the rolled leather to the soft rope or waterproof PVC, each one is made to order, so you get the right fit and finish for your dog — no mass production, and no cutting corners.

A Style for Every Dog

Whether your dog lounges indoors most of the day, wears a harness outside, or simply needs a lighter collar to hold ID, a house collar offers an easy solution. They’re especially useful for fine-coated breeds, puppies, or any dog who finds traditional collars heavy or uncomfortable.

House collars are just one of our collar styles. If you’re looking for something lead-ready, you’ll find plenty of choice in our Designer Dog Collars collection.

House Collar FAQs

Q: Can I walk my dog with a house collar?
House collars aren’t designed for use with a lead, but plenty of people pair them with a harness for walks. If you want something lead-ready, a walking collar or martingale is a better option.

Q: Can my dog wear a house collar all the time?
Yes, many owners leave house collars on throughout the day to make sure ID tags are always visible. Some prefer to remove them at night, but that’s a personal choice as long as your dog is safe at home.

Q: What size house collar does my dog need?
Measure your dog’s neck where the collar will sit, then choose the closest size. Each Petiquette house collar is made to order so it fits comfortably without slipping.

Q: Do you make house collars for large or small breeds?
Yes — all of our house collars are made to order, so we can create the right size whether you have a tiny Chihuahua or a larger breed like a Labrador or Vizsla.

Q: What materials can I choose from?
Our house collars come in a choice of leather, soft rope, padded leather, or waterproof PVC — all finished with your choice of silver, brass, or rose gold hardware.

Q: What’s the best house collar for a Whippet or Greyhound?
For sighthounds like Whippets and Greyhounds, the Lightweight Leather House Collar or Soft Rope House Collar works beautifully. Both are shaped to sit comfortably on longer necks and come in sizes suitable for their slim build.

Q: What’s a good house collar for a Labrador or larger breed?
For bigger dogs, the Leather Tag Collar – Brass is a great option. It’s lightweight but reinforced with a paracord core and longer stitching, making it ideal for active dogs that need a bit more strength without the bulk.
