House Collar Size Guide

This guide is for house collars. House collars are lightweight ID collars designed for wearing indoors. They are fitted for comfort rather than control and should not sit snugly like a walking collar.

There are two house collar styles. Choose the section below that matches how your dog’s collar is designed.

House collars with a clasp

This style fastens with a clasp and does not need to go over the head.

House collars with a clasp should fit more loosely than a regular walking collar. The easiest way to think about the fit is that it should sit more like a necklace for your dog, hanging a little lower on the neck rather than sitting snugly.

How to measure

  • Use a soft tape measure and place it loosely around the middle of your dog’s neck, where the collar will sit.
  • The tape should not be tight. Allow the collar to hang comfortably rather than fitting close to the neck.
  • Note this measurement.

How to choose a size.
When ordering, choose the size that is as close to the neck measurement you have taken.  The house collar’s total length will include the leather, the O-ring, and the clasp.

If you are unsure how loose the collar should be, we are happy to advise.

Slip-on house collars

This includes both fixed slip-on house collars and adjustable slip-on house collars. These collars do not open and must be able to slide over your dog’s head.

How to measure

  • Measure around the widest part of your dog’s head, usually around and just in front of the ears.
  • Measure around the point on the neck where the house collar will sit.
  • Keep the tape snug against the fur but not tight.

The collar must be large enough to pass comfortably over the widest part of the head without causing discomfort.

How to choose a size.
Compare the two measurements and order the size closest to the largest measurement. This ensures the collar will slip on and off comfortably.

Important. Do not add fingers underneath the tape measure. Adding extra space can result in a collar that is too loose.
