Sighthound Collar Size Guide

Back to all size guides

This guide is for sighthound collars. Sighthound collars are designed to sit higher on the neck to suit the narrow head shape of breeds such as Italian Greyhounds, Whippets, Greyhounds, Lurchers, and similar dogs.

The measuring method is the same for all sighthound breeds. The difference between Italian Greyhound, Whippet, and Greyhound collars is the size and proportions of the finished collar, not how the dog is measured.

How to measure your dog’s neck for a sighthound collar

Use a soft tape measure and follow these steps:

  1. Place the tape around the top of your dog’s neck, just behind the ears and under the chin.
  2. Keep the tape snug against the fur, but not tight.
  3. Note the measurement in inches or centimetres.

This is the narrowest part of your dog’s head. Measuring here helps reduce the risk of your dog slipping out of their collar.

Important. Do not add fingers underneath the tape measure. Enter the exact measurement you take.

How to choose the correct size to order

On the collar product page, select the size option where your dog’s neck measurement is closest to the smallest hole in the size range. This gives you room to loosen the collar slightly if needed, while keeping it secure at the narrowest point of the neck.

Example.
If your dog measures 10″, choose a size option that begins at around 10″ (or the nearest size where 10″ sits close to the smallest hole in the range).

If your measurement sits between two size options, choose the safer option and get in touch so we can advise before you order.

How to measure an existing collar

If you have an existing sighthound collar that fits well, follow the guide below.

Measure from the inside of the buckle (where the prong sits) to the hole you use. This measurement represents how the collar fits when worn.

When choosing a size, select the option where this measurement sits comfortably within the adjustable range.
