This guide is for flat dog collars. These collars tend to be the same width all the way around and fasten with a buckle.

How to measure your dog’s neck for a flat dog collar

  • Use a soft tape measure (or a piece of string) and wrap it around the middle of your dog’s neck, where the collar will sit.

  • Make sure it’s snug against the fur but not tight. Do not add fingers underneath. We already allow for a comfortable fit in the sizing.

  • This is your dog’s neck measurement.

Now check the size chart at the bottom of the page and choose a collar where your dog’s neck measurement is closest to the smallest hole in the size range.

Example:
If your dog’s neck measures 10″, you’ll need a collar listed as 9″ to 11″, as this adjusts between 9 and 11 inches.

PLEASE DO NOT MEASURE THE TOTAL LENGTH OF AN EXISTING COLLAR.

This is not your dog’s neck measurement and will result in a collar that is too big for your dog.

How to choose the correct size to order

On the collar product page, select the size option where your dog’s neck measurement is closest to the smallest hole in the size range. This gives you room to loosen the collar slightly if needed, while keeping it secure at the narrowest point of the neck.

Example.
If your dog measures 10″, choose a size option that begins at around 10″ (or the nearest size where 10″ sits close to the smallest hole in the range).

If your measurement sits between two size options, choose the safer option and get in touch so we can advise before you order.

Take a look at the size chart below and choose a size where the measurement you have taken from your existing collar falls as close to the middle of the range.

Remember, the sizes of the collar in the chart represent the neck size range the collar will fit, and are NOT the total length of the collar.

Example:
If the length from the inside of the buckle (where the prong sits) to the hole you use is 13″, choose a size 12″ to 14″. This gives room to tighten or loosen the collar.
