Will the print on a UV-printed leather collar fade or wear off?

The print is UV-cured directly onto Italian calf leather, which means the ink bonds to the leather surface rather than being applied as a coating that can peel or flake. In everyday use, including wet weather walks, the print holds up well normal daily wear. One thing worth knowing: Italian calf leather is a soft leather, and like all leather collars it doesn't do well against sharp claws. If your dog is a persistent neck scratcher, that's worth bearing in mind regardless of the collar type.

Can a printed leather collar get wet?

Yes, the collar handles wet weather and general outdoor use well. If your dog swims regularly, give the collar a wipe with a soft cloth afterwards and leave it to dry naturally, away from radiators or direct heat. This matters most after sea swimming, as salt is hard on leather over time. It's also worth taking the collar off to dry rather than leaving a wet leather collar on your dog for long periods, as trapped moisture can encourage bacterial growth and lead to odour from the collar itself.

How do I clean a printed leather dog collar?

For everyday mud and dirt, a soft damp cloth or sponge is usually all you need. For anything more stubborn, add a small drop of washing up liquid to the sponge, clean the collar, then make sure all soap residue is rinsed away before leaving it to dry naturally away from direct heat. Every so often, a little leather balsam or unscented moisturiser will help keep the leather in good condition. Avoid soaking the collar or using harsh chemical cleaners.

How do I measure my dog for a leather dog collar?

Use a soft tape measure and wrap it around the middle of your dog's neck, held fairly snug against the fur. Take that measurement in inches, then find the size where your measurement sits within the range, ideally toward the smaller end to allow for adjustment. A collar listed as 9"–11" fits dogs with a neck measurement between 9 and 11 inches; it doesn't mean the collar itself is 11 inches long. We don't use S, M, L sizing because a medium from one brand tells you nothing useful about the actual measurement, and can vary enormously between manufacturers. Each of our sizes covers a 2 to 3 inch adjustment range, which gives a neat, tailored fit without excess strap. Description

If your dog’s collar is going to be the first thing people notice, it may as well say something. The Retro Drops Printed Leather Dog Collar is UV-printed onto Italian calf leather with rounded teardrop shapes in red, navy, grey, pink and soft mauve, a collar that wouldn’t have looked out of place in a 1960s boutique and looks just as good on a dog today.

The print is applied directly to Italian calf leather using a UV printer. Once cured, the ink bonds to the leather surface and holds up to daily wear and wet weather without fading, peeling or cracking. Think real outdoor use: muddy walks, rain, the lot.

The collar is available in ten sizes, covering neck measurements from 7.5″ to 26″ and suiting most breeds from small terriers and toy breeds up to large and giant breeds. The width increases with the size, from 5/8″ on the smallest sizes up to 1.25″ on the largest.

The smallest size, 7.5″–9.5″ size has a 5/8″ body width to give the print more room to show, tapering to a 1/2″ strap end at the buckle and D-ring.

On the five largest sizes (15″–18″ through to 23″–26″), the buckle end strap is made from brown Italian leather rather than printed leather, with the Retro Drops printed design covering the main body of the collar. How to Measure for a Leather Dog Collar

How to measure your dog's neck for a leather dog collar

Use a soft tape measure (or a piece of string) and wrap it around the middle of your dog’s neck.
Make sure it’s fairly snug against the fur but not tight. No need to add fingers underneath – we’ve already allowed for a comfy fit in the sizing.
This is your dog’s neck measurement.

Now check our size chart and choose a collar where your dog’s neck measurement is closest to the smallest hole in the size range.

Example:
If your dog’s neck measures 10", you’ll need a collar listed as 9"–11", as this adjusts between 9 and 11 inches.

PLEASE DON’T MEASURE THE FULL LENGTH OF AN EXISTING COLLAR – this is not your dog’s neck measurement and will result in a collar that’s too big.

Take a look at our size chart below and choose a size where the measurement you have taken from your existing collar falls as close to the middle of the range.

For example, if the length of your existing collar from the end of the leather to the hole you use is 13", then you'd choose a size 12" - 14". This will give you room to tighten or slacken the collar.
