A leather martingale collar handmade from soft Italian leather for dogs with narrower heads and necks. It’s a popular choice for sighthounds like Whippets, Greyhounds, and Lurchers, as well as other breeds that can slip out of regular collars.
The martingale design gently tightens if your dog pulls or tries to back out, then loosens again when they relax. We fold the leather outwards around the rings to avoid any hard edges, and line the inside with the same butter-soft leather for a smooth, comfortable feel.
Available in widths from ¾” to 2″ and in 28 Italian leather colours, each collar is handmade to your chosen size in our Northumberland workshop. Finished with strong, rust-proof stainless steel hardware, it’s built for years of everyday use. If you’d like help deciding on the right width or style, take a look at our How to Choose a Martingale Collar guide before ordering.

What is a leather martingale collar for?
A martingale collar is designed for dogs that can slip out of regular collars, such as sighthounds with narrow heads or breeds with thick necks and smaller skulls. The loop design gently tightens if your dog pulls or tries to back out, then loosens again when they relax. This makes it a popular alternative to standard collars, as it offers more control without causing discomfort or putting pressure on the windpipe.
Can my dog wear a martingale collar all day?
Martingale collars are best suited to walks and supervised time rather than all-day wear. The tightening loop could catch on objects if worn unsupervised, which is why most owners switch to a lightweight house collar indoors. This ensures your dog always carries ID, while reserving the martingale for walks and training.
How do I measure my dog for a martingale collar?
To measure correctly, take two measurements: the narrowest part of the head (just behind the ears and under the chin) and the neck where the collar will sit. The head measurement ensures the collar won’t slip off when relaxed, while the neck measurement helps us make sure it won’t feel too tight when adjusted. Following our measuring guide will help you get a comfortable and functional fit.
Are leather martingale collars comfortable for dogs?
Yes. Comfort is one of the main reasons many owners choose leather over synthetic materials. Our martingale collars are fully lined in soft Italian leather, with the leather folded outward around the rings to avoid hard edges pressing against the neck. Over time, the leather softens even further, moulding to your dog’s shape for a personalised fit.
