A timeless piece for your elegant sighthound, the Hound Head is a traditional lurcher collar finished with a detailed concho featuring a noble hound’s head at its centre—ideal for breeds like Greyhounds, Salukis and Afghan Hounds.

Choose from a wide selection of rich Italian leather colours, from deep classics to contemporary shades. Each collar is made by hand in our Northumberland workshop, lined with butter-soft calf leather for a gentle feel against your dog’s neck.

A robust leather core provides strength and durability, while smooth rounded edges help prevent rubbing or discomfort. The concho is securely riveted in place to ensure it stays firmly put wherever your dog adventures.

Shaped in our signature fishtail style for neck support, this traditional sighthound collar measures 2″ at its widest point, tapering to a 1″ strap and buckle, complete with a D-ring for easy lead attachment.

A note on shades. Each hide is naturally a little individual, which is part of what makes your collar unique. These are photographed in natural daylight and are as faithful as we can get them. How to measure for a Greyhound or Lurcher collar

  • Wrap a soft tape measure around the top of your dog’s neck—just behind the ears and under the chin.
  • Note the measurement in inches — this is your dog's neck measurement.
  • Choose the size where that measurement falls within the range, ideally towards the smaller end to allow for adjustment.

This is the narrowest part of your dog’s head, and measuring here helps reduce the risk of your Whippet slipping out of their collar.

Example:
If your dog's measurement is 15", choose the 14" to 16" size. This means the collar adjusts between 14 and 16 inches — it does not mean the total length of the collar is 16".

If measuring from an existing collar, measure from the end of the leather to the hole you use — not the total length of the collar. The total length will result in a collar that's too big.

If you're unsure which size is right for your dog, please get in touch — we're happy to help.

FAQs

How long will my order take?

All collars and leads are made to order. We typically dispatch within 3–7 working days, with Royal Mail Tracked 48 adding 2–3 further working days in the UK. Most orders arrive within 5–10 working days. A dispatch notification is sent by email. If you need a collar by a specific date, contact us before ordering.

Can I exchange my collar if it doesn't fit?

Yes. If the collar doesn't fit when it arrives, you can exchange it for a different size. The most common reason for a poor fit is measuring the total length of an existing collar rather than the dog's neck directly. Full details are on our returns and exchanges page at petiquettecollars.co.uk/returns.

What type of collar is best for a Greyhound?

Greyhounds and lurchers have slim necks and heads that are narrower than their necks, which makes it easy for a normal flat collar to slip off. A greyhound collar has a wider section at the front, often called a fishtail shape, which spreads pressure evenly and keeps your dog safe without discomfort. The tapered ends sit neatly behind the ears so the collar stays in place.

What leather colours can my collar be made in?

Your leather collar can be made in 28 Italian leather colours: Acorn, Baby Blue, Baby Pink, Black, Bottle Green, Candyfloss, Chianti, Daffodil, Dove, Dusky Pink, Easter Rose, Jaffa, Lime, Madeira Blue, Mushroom, Olive, Peanut Butter, Purple Velvet, Royal Purple, Ruby, School Grey, Shamrock, Signal Blue, Spearmint, Teal, Thistle, White, and Willow.

How do I clean a leather dog collar?

A wipe with a damp cloth after muddy walks is usually enough to keep our leather collars looking good. For more stubborn stains, perhaps your dog has been rolling in fox poo, add a small amount of washing up liquid to the damp cloth and gently wipe the affected area. If your dog has been swimming, particularly in the sea, give the collar a wipe with a damp cloth afterwards to remove any residue or salt from the leather.
