At Petiquette, we believe a dog collar should be more than just functional—it should be a reflection of your dog’s personality and your own sense of style. That’s why every one of our luxury dog collars is handmade to order in our Northumberland workshop using the finest materials we can get our paws on.
But what actually goes into making a Petiquette collar? Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we turn a roll of Italian leather into a collar your dog will love wearing every day.
We start with a strong base. A piece of vegetable tanned leather is cut by hand to form the inner core of the collar. This layer gives the collar its structure and strength, helping it keep its shape through daily wear.
It’s not something you’ll see once the collar is finished, but it’s what makes the difference between a collar that lasts a few months, and one that lasts for years.
What Is a British Dog Collar? A Closer Look at Craftsmanship and Ethics
Next, we select your chosen leather colours from our collection of vibrant Italian calf hides. This leather is beautifully soft, with a smooth finish that feels lovely against your dog’s neck.
You can customise both the outer and inner lining colours—whether you go for something classic or one of our bright leather dog collars is entirely up to you.

With the base and top layers ready, we stitch the vegetable tanned leather and Italian leather together. We only use durable, rot-proof thread to ensure strength and longevity.
This is where the collar really starts to come together.
If you’ve chosen a Swarovski dog collar, this is the stage where things get sparkly. Each crystal is riveted into place by hand using a specialist vacuum press that holds the crystal securely without damaging the leather beneath.
We don’t use glue or shortcuts—every gem is set for durability as well as beauty.
Not a fan of crystals? No problem. We also offer a wide range of studded dog collars using decorative conchos and rivets, giving you a more classic or bold look without the sparkle. Whether you’re after full-on bling or something a little more understated, there’s a style to suit your dog.
For designs that include padding, a soft layer is added between the collar’s core and lining. This gives extra cushioning—particularly useful for breeds with sensitive necks, like Whippets and Italian Greyhounds.
It’s a subtle touch, but one that adds even more comfort to your dog’s daily wear.
Any finishing stitches are added at this stage, refining the shape and making sure every part of the collar is cleanly constructed and sitting just right. We check every seam and edge to ensure a neat finish.
The stainless steel buckle and D-ring are fitted next, followed by strong matching eyelets. We use stainless steel for its rust resistance and durability—it’ll stay shiny and secure no matter how many walks, swims, or muddy adventures your dog takes it on.
As a final mark of craftsmanship, we emboss the Petiquette stamp into the leather. It’s a quiet nod to handmade quality and everything we stand for—style, comfort, and care in every detail.
