Our dogs have such wonderful, individual personalities, so why shouldn’t their collars reflect that? It is something we have always believed at Petiquette, and it is the idea that sits behind every printed leather dog collar we make.
The Printed Collection brings rich, vibrant designs to Italian calf leather dog collars, handmade in our Northumberland workshop since 2009. Choose your collar type below.
We have been handmaking leather dog collars in our Northumberland workshop since 2009, and the printed leather collars are something we spent years planning before we were ready to bring them out. We wanted to be sure the leather was right, the process was right, and that the finished collar was something we were genuinely proud to put our name on.
Each collar is printed with a full-colour design directly onto Italian calf leather using a UV printer, then handmade in the same Northumberland workshop where every other Petiquette collar is made. If you have something specific in mind for your dog’s collar, it is always worth getting in touch. Some of the collars we are most proud of started with a customer asking whether we could do something a little different.
Our printed leather collars come in two types. Printed Leather Dog Collars are flat buckle collars for all breeds. Printed Leather Sighthound Collars are shaped specifically for the longer, more slender neck of a greyhound, whippet, or Italian greyhound. Both are made on the same Italian calf leather, handmade, in the same workshop.
Each printed dog collar starts as a piece of white Italian calf leather, cut to size. The design is then printed directly onto the leather surface using a UV printer, which cures the ink as it is applied. This allows the ink to bond directly to the leather and actually become part of the leather rather than drying on top of it the way ordinary ink or paint would. We use a specialist, flexible ink, so as the collar bends and moves with your dog’s neck, the print moves with it.
We use white leather as the base for all the printed collars because it gives the most accurate colour reproduction. The deep blues, the rich golds, the sharp contrast between colours, all of that comes through beautifully on white.
Once the printing is done, the collar is made up in the workshop exactly as every other Petiquette collar is. Same leather, same stitching, same stainless steel hardware. The printed designs are simply the latest addition to a range that has been giving dogs something a little out of the ordinary since 2009.
A printed dog collar is only as good as the leather it is printed on. Ours is Italian calf leather, sourced after several years of searching for the right supplier from the world-renowned tanneries of Tuscany, and it is the same leather we have been using to handmake collars in Northumberland since 2009. Soft enough to be comfortable against your dog’s neck from day one, substantial enough to hold up to years of daily wear.
The stitching, the stainless steel hardware, and the way each collar is put together by hand are all identical to the rest of the Petiquette range. If you have bought a Petiquette collar before, you already know what to expect from the quality. The printed designs simply bring a new layer of personality to a collar that is built to last.
Once the collar is assembled, we apply Renapur leather balsam to the finished piece. Renapur conditions the leather, keeps it supple, and adds a light water-resistant barrier, and it means your dog’s printed collar arrives ready to wear, not just ready to look at.
Dogs come in all shapes and sizes, and the collar that works perfectly for a Labrador is not necessarily the right choice for an Italian greyhound. That is why the printed leather range comes in two distinct collar types.
Our Printed Leather Dog Collars are flat buckle collars for all breeds, from a tiny chihuahua to a large golden retriever and everything in between. Whatever the size of your dog, the collar width is matched to the size you choose, running from 5/8 inch on the smallest sizes up to 1.25 inches on the larger sizes, so the proportions are always right for your dog.
For Italian greyhounds, whippets, greyhounds, lurchers, and other sighthound breeds, the Printed Leather Sighthound Collars are made with their long, slender necks and narrow heads in mind. The tapered fishtail shape, wider through the centre and narrowing down to the buckle strap at each end, sits comfortably across the neck and makes it much harder for a sighthound to back out, which is something every sighthound owner will appreciate.
Our Printed Leather Sighthound Collars come in three widths to suit different breed sizes: 1.5 inches tapering to a half inch strap for Italian greyhounds, 1.75 inches tapering to three quarter inch for whippet sized sighthounds, and 2 inches tapering to 1 inch for greyhounds, lurchers, and larger sighthounds.
If you are unsure which width suits your dog, or your dog sits between sizes, get in touch before you order. We would rather help you get it right first time.
Every printed leather collar is made to order in our Northumberland workshop. We take the same care over every collar that leaves here, whether it is your first order or your tenth.
We know that ordering a collar online comes with a certain amount of trust on your part, and the fear of ordering a size that doesn’t fit perfectly is real. If something is not right when it arrives, you have our guarantee that we will sort it. Returns and exchanges are accepted within 14 days, and that applies to every collar we make, including those made to order. Full details are on our returns page.
If you have a question before you order, whether it is about sizing, which collar suits your dog, or something you have seen and want to replicate, just get in touch. There is a real person at the other end, and no question is too small.
The printed leather range is still growing, and new designs are something we are always working on. If there is a print you would love to see on one of your dog’s collars, we would genuinely like to hear about it. No promises, but we do listen, and more than one design in the Petiquette range started life as a customer suggestion. Drop us a note using the form below.
No. The key difference between UV printing and other printing methods is that UV ink cures as it is applied, bonding directly to the leather surface rather than drying on top of it as traditional printing would. Because the ink becomes part of the leather rather than a separate layer sitting on the surface, there is nothing to crack or peel away. The flexible ink also moves with the leather as the collar bends and flexes throughout the day, which means it handles the natural movement of a collar on a dog’s neck without any deterioration to the print.
A printed leather collar can be cleaned in exactly the same way as any other leather collar. A damp cloth handles everyday dirt and mud, and a light application of Renapur leather balsam every so often keeps the leather conditioned and supple. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, which can damage both the leather and the print, and avoid leaving the collar soaking in water for any length of time. Full cleaning guidance is on our how to clean a leather dog collar page.
The Printed Leather Dog Collars are flat buckle collars available across a full size range, from small breeds up to larger dogs, with the collar width matched to the size selected. They suit the vast majority of breeds. For sighthounds, Italian greyhounds, whippets, greyhounds, and lurchers, the Printed Leather Sighthound Collars are the better choice, shaped specifically for the longer neck and narrower head of those breeds. If you are unsure which collar suits your dog, get in touch before you order.
Sighthounds have a distinctive build: a long, elegant neck and a narrow head that is often not much wider than the neck itself. On a standard flat collar, this means a collar fitted snugly enough to be secure around the neck can often still be slipped over the head, which is a safety risk. The tapered fishtail shape of a sighthound collar, wider through the centre and narrowing down to the buckle strap at each end, distributes pressure comfortably across the neck and makes it significantly harder for a sighthound to back out. It is a design that has been used for sighthounds for generations for exactly this reason.
Yes, and it is more common than you might expect. Breeds with a longer, more slender neck, poodles and Bedlington terriers being two good examples, suit the fishtail shape very well. The wider centre panel sits comfortably across the neck, and many owners of these breeds find they prefer it to a standard flat collar once they have tried it. If you think your dog might suit a sighthound collar but you are not sure which width to go for, get in touch and we will help you work it out.
